On 16th October 2025, Year 11 students visited the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew as part of their science curriculum. The visit gave students the chance to experience real-world ecology in a world-famous botanical setting.
The year group was split into two. Group 1 began the day with a practical ecology workshop, where they used quadrat sampling to collect data on plant distribution and biodiversity. Meanwhile, Group 2 explored Kew’s stunning gardens and iconic greenhouses, discovering plants from around the world and learning how scientists protect rare species.
After lunch, the groups swapped — ensuring everyone experienced both the scientific fieldwork and the beauty of the gardens. The workshop helped students build key skills in data collection, observation, and ecological analysis, directly linking to their GCSE science studies.
The trip was a fantastic mix of learning and exploration, inspiring students to see science beyond the classroom.
