As part of their Qur’an studies, Year 8 students visited London Zoo to observe the signs of Allah in the natural world. 8U attended on 13th May, and 8S on 19th May. The trip allowed students to connect classroom teachings with real-world examples of Allah’s creation.
Exploring Allah’s Signs in Nature
London Zoo, located in Regent’s Park, is home to over 8,000 animals representing more than 300 species London Zoo. Students observed a wide variety of creatures—from majestic lions to tiny insects—and linked these observations to verses in the Qur’an that speak of the diversity and precision of Allah’s creation. For instance, Surah An-Nur (24:45) states:
“And Allah has created from water every living creature…”
This verse resonated as students observed the diverse marine life in the aquarium section, reflecting on the interconnectedness of all living beings.
Connecting Faith with Stewardship
The visit supported classroom discussions around concepts such as khalifah (stewardship), the balance in creation, and the importance of recognizing and being grateful for the signs around us. Students were encouraged to reflect on their role in preserving the environment and respecting all creatures as part of their faith.
A Meaningful Experience
Overall, the trip was an enriching experience that deepened students’ understanding of the natural world and its connection to their faith. It provided a tangible context for the teachings of the Qur’an and inspired a sense of responsibility towards the environment.
